Despite what this picture might suggest, I did not spend all weekend lying around in the sunshine. It was too hot, for one thing. The weather seems to have changed in a matter of weeks from lovely crisp end-of-winter temperatures to hot, muggy, christ-I-hate-summer temperatures. And it's not even summer yet. We had an astonishingly brief storm last night (about three minutes of lashing rain and lightning as it tore over us on its way somewhere else), which I, with my degree in advanced meteorology (ie ability to check the BOM website) confidently predicted would break the heat. I was wrong.
We did rather a lot of packing this weekend, and I finally packed every single book we own into boxes. Given that we only have two small bookshelves, the sheer number of volumes I managed to pack onto those shelves is quite astonishing. We had our final inspection of the new place this weekend, after the present owners had moved their belongings out, and I felt incredibly thrilled looking at the enormous wall in the lounge room which will be my library wall - covered, ideally, in floor to ceiling bookshelves. I'll have to buy more books to fill them up.
I was making surreptitious phone calls on Saturday morning, trying to find out whether any nearby music stores had a particular Gretsch guitar in stock so that I could take Prince Valiant on a surprise trip to play one. I wasn't having any luck, despite my imitation of a guitar-pro phone manner. "Yeah, I'm after the Gretsch 5120. Yeah, it's the orange one, the hollow body." I was getting nowhere. "I'm afraid we don't have that one in stock," said the last store. "Do you play a hollow body at the moment?" I couldn't be bothered explaining that it wasn't for me, and said, "Yeah, I do, but I was really after a Gretsch, for that sound, you know." He asked me what I played. "Um," I said, my mind going blank. "Um. Actually, I'm calling for my boyfriend, and I can't remember. Sorry!" Very smooth. I'm never pretending to be a guitar player again.

Awesome shoes, Sif!
Another dress idea: http://trashthedress.wordpress.com/why-trash-the-dress/
They're cute, aren't they? Unfortunately, they are also Big W cheapies, so they're falling apart. I want a pair of patterened Keds.
I couldn't bear destroying the dress or staining it A-R - I'd rather be able to use it for years.
